SUP ELECTS CDE. ODECIOUS MULBAH AS 34TH POLITBURO CHAIRMAN, VOWS RENEWED MILITANCY AT UNIVERSITY OF LIBERIA

MONROVIA – The Vanguard Student Unification Party (SUP) has officially elected Cde. Odecious Mulbah as Chairman of its 34th Politburo and Central Committee, marking a new chapter in the party’s over half-century history of disciplined student activism at the University of Liberia. In a statement issued from University of Liberia, Capitol Hill in Monrovia on Thursday, February 19, 2026, the party congratulated its new leadership while urging militants to reconcile and rally behind the outcome of the Congress.

In what the party characterized as a return to its “over half-a-century tradition,” SUP emphasized that each generation has a constitutional duty to transfer leadership through a disciplined internal process. According to the statement, the Congress of the Student Unification Party remains “a fundamental pillar that preserves its sanctity and sacredness,” serving as the base of power within the party’s structure and protecting it from what it termed “external takeover by backward social forces.”

The party praised the 33rd Politburo and Central Committee, led by former Chairman Sylvester S. Kalou Wheeler, for what it called a flawless execution of constitutional responsibilities. “The party extends profound appreciation to the 33rd Politburo and Central Committee… for planning and faultlessly delivering on our institution’s constitutional and traditional responsibility,” the statement read.

SUP acknowledged that internal democratic processes often generate emotional reactions but insisted that discipline must prevail. “The fact remains ironclad that internal democratic processes generate emotions,” the party noted, adding that “the truest test of disciplined militants is how they manage their emotions such that they do not ignite tension with foundational values of the party.” The leadership urged all militants to reconcile with the declared outcome and ensure their conduct reflects acceptable party practices.

The newly elected 34th Politburo and Central Committee is headed by Cde. Odecious Mulbah as Chairman. He is joined by Cde. Alvin M. Koffa as Co-Chair for Party Affairs and Cde. Peter Kollie as Co-Chair for Governmental Affairs. Cde. David Howard Jr. serves as Secretary-General, with Cde. Polay Nyan Emmanuel as Assistant Secretary General.

Other key officials include Cde. Stephen Suleiman Brown as Financial Secretary, Cde. Bendu MQ Kamara as Treasurer, and Cde. Thomas Theophilus Hallie as Standard Bearer. The composition reflects what the party describes as a new generation of disciplined revolutionaries entrusted with advancing its Marxist-Leninist ideological framework.

In its statement, SUP underscored that power brings responsibility. “Power, as recorded in history, does not derive from struggle alone, and once it derives, it presents responsibility,” the party declared. It reaffirmed its commitment to a Marxist-Leninist worldview, arguing that revolutionary leadership must analyze the structures of liberal capitalist society and mobilize the masses for structural change.

The party cited classical revolutionary thought to frame its mission, asserting that the state in capitalist systems often functions as a tool of class domination rather than neutrality. According to SUP, revolutionary movements must produce “a clear line of attack, strategy, tactics, and organization to mobilize the collective energy of the masses toward the realization of fundamental socioeconomic change.”

SUP also signaled that its activism will not remain confined to rhetoric. The 34th Politburo pledged to “continue to agitate and stage protest rallies whenever and wherever the policies of the University of Liberia Administration or those of the regime of Mr. Boakai come into contact with the interests of the students… or the class interests of the workers and peasant masses.”

Referencing recent national events, the party argued that Liberians are not passive observers of history. “Recent events have demonstrated that the Liberian masses are not passive observers of history; they are active players and are always on the edge of their seats waiting for signals,” the statement asserted, adding that lived experiences over the past twenty-one years justify intensified mobilization for socioeconomic transformation.

Beyond the Politburo, SUP announced the appointment of its Militant Bureau, a structure designed to coordinate grassroots activism and organizational discipline. H. Faliku M. Kromah was named Chairman of the Bureau, supported by Lamie D. Flex Donzo as Co-Chairman and Boniface Bartue as Secretary General, among other members.

The creation of the Militant Bureau signals the party’s intent to consolidate its organizational machinery at a time when student politics remains a potent force in Liberia’s broader sociopolitical landscape. Historically, SUP has played a visible role in shaping national debates, often positioning itself as a voice for the working class and marginalized communities.

The statement concluded with the rallying slogans “Long live massescracy!” and “Long live SUP!” It was signed by Secretary-General Cde. David Howard Jr. and approved by Chairman Cde. Odecious Mulbah, marking the formal transition to the 34th leadership.
