SUPREME COURT ORDERS KEY MEMBERS OF HOUSE TO APPEAR IN ONGOING SPEAKER DISPUTE

Date:

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Supreme Court of Liberia has issued a significant legal order, calling for key members of the House of Representatives to appear before its full bench on March 14, 2025, to respond to a Bill of Information filed by embattled Speaker J. Fonati Koffa. This legal action follows a long-standing dispute over the legitimacy of the speaker’s position, with Koffa and other members of the 55th Legislature seeking a resolution to the crisis.

In its decision, the Court has specifically summoned Representative Richard N. Koon, who claims the speakership, and Deputy Speaker Thomas Fallah, among others, to present their defense. They are required to justify why the Court should not grant the informants’ request. The Supreme Court has also instructed the respondents to submit their official returns to the writ by the set deadline, providing a legal framework for their response.

Brigadier General Amos B. Kesseh Dickson, Sr., the Marshal of the Supreme Court, has been directed to oversee the proper delivery of the writ to the named respondents. The Court has emphasized that the proof of service must be filed appropriately within the required time frame, ensuring transparency and compliance with the legal process.
