A suspected Sierra Leonean dissident, allegedly linked to a plot in Sierra Leone, has been arrested in Monrovia by the Liberian Police, according to a spokesman of the Sierra Leonean Government. The arrest of the individual, known as 8080 or Yeteyete, was announced by the Sierra Leonean Government last evening. Lyndon J. Ponnie, a journalist from Liberia, reports on the incident while monitoring the situation in the neighboring country.
The Sierra Leonean government has stated that 8080, a former police officer in that country, is the alleged mastermind behind a recent plot to destabilize Sierra Leone. According to their claims, all plans to carry out the plot were devised in Liberia.
Additionally, the Sierra Leonean government has accused Liberian Senator Sarr Hallie Joseph of Montserrado County of involvement in the plot within Sierra Leone, asserting that he has been harboring 8080 in Liberia. The government further alleged that 8080 has been frequently seen in the convoy of the Mintserrado County Senator in Monrovia.
Efforts to contact Senator Joseph who’s running for another term in the elections in October, have failed. He could be reached for comment on the allegations.
The Liberian Police when contacted last evening, confirmed the arrest of a Sierra Leonean national. A senior police officer who preferred not to be named said investigations were being conducted in the case to substantiate the allegations. He admitted International Police officers are already in Monrovia on the arrest of the suspect. This is a developing story. Details coming up later.
