MONROVIA – Francis Nana, a taxi driver accused of killing Police Officer Mark D. Bracewell on Saturday, September 28, 2025, in Vai Town, Bushrod Island, has been formally charged with murder and is being transported to court under heavy police escort.
Eyewitnesses say Officer Bracewell had stopped Nana’s commercial vehicle for operating without a valid driver’s license when the incident occurred. According to reports, the driver allegedly got back into his vehicle and ran over the officer, resulting in his death.
On Tuesday, September 30, Minister of Justice Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh led a team from the Joint Security Services to pay tribute to the fallen officer at the location where he was killed. The Liberia National Police expressed its grief on its official Facebook page, stating: “The Liberia National Police acknowledges with deep sorrow the reported passing of Officer Mark D. Bracewell, who was reportedly killed while on duty. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to his family and loved ones during this difficult time, and will release an official statement once full details are confirmed.”
Nana was publicly presented by more than a dozen LNP officers, including Inspector General Gregory Coleman and other senior officials, at the Temple of Justice. Nana’s legal team, however, maintains that the incident was an accident, disputing claims by police that the act was intentional.
