MONROVIA – The Unity Party (UP) has expressed disappointment over what it describes as a misrepresentation of recent comments made by its National Chairman, Luther Tarpeh, regarding Liberia’s political landscape.
In a press release issued Monday, September 1, 2025, and signed by Lansana Pawenneh Fofana, the party’s National Assistant Secretary General for Press, Publicity and Outreach, the UP said Tarpeh’s remarks during a conversation with journalists in Beeplay, District #5, Nimba County, were taken out of context.
According to the release, Chairman Tarpeh emphasized that although Liberia has numerous registered political parties, the former ruling party and the Unity Party have consistently remained the top two contenders in recent elections. He reportedly pointed out that other political groupings often align with either of these two parties to achieve electoral success.
“The Unity Party wishes to clarify that Chairman Tarpeh’s remarks were not intended to disparage or undermine the vitality of other parties, particularly member parties of the Unity Party Alliance,” the statement noted. “The party extends sincere apologies to any individuals or parties who may have felt offended by the comments.”
The UP further acknowledged the significant role played by its Alliance partners in helping secure victory for President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and in sustaining his administration. The party pledged to continue working in harmony with its allies to advance the national agenda.
“The Unity Party acknowledges the invaluable contributions of Alliance Parties in bringing the current administration to power and appreciates the ongoing support for President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s government. We reaffirm our commitment to mutual respect, collaboration, and the preservation of the Alliance’s integrity,” the release emphasized.
Calling for enhanced collaboration, the party urged all members of the Rescue Alliance to avoid actions that could undermine its growth and vibrancy.
“As President Boakai works to position Liberia on a path to greatness, the Unity Party remains steadfast in its dedication to upholding the Rescue Alliance, ensuring the continuity and success of our government,” the release concluded.
