MONROVIA – The Montserrado County Chapter of the Unity Party (UP) has upheld the suspension of Sylvester Wonplue, Chairman of its Youth Congress, following allegations of misconduct deemed “antithetical” to the party’s constitution and core values.
In a press statement issued on March 19, 2025, the Executive Committee of the UP Montserrado Chapter confirmed receiving official communication from the National Coordinating Committee of the Evergreen National Youth Congress, which called for Wonplue’s immediate suspension. The party cited Article 16, Section 7 of its constitution, which grants the National Youth Congress full authority to discipline members who violate its principles.
As a result, the Montserrado County Chapter has instructed Wonplue to step aside and hand over all party-related responsibilities and properties to his deputy. He is also required to fully cooperate with a full-scale investigation by the Grievance and Ethics Committee.
The statement further warned all district officials, youth and women coordinators, and party members against engaging in any official dealings with Wonplue under the banner of the Unity Party until the investigation is concluded.
The Unity Party Montserrado Chapter emphasized its commitment to upholding discipline and internal accountability, which it considers fundamental to institutional integrity and national development. The party reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring that all members adhere to its principles as it continues its political engagement in Liberia.
