URGENT CALL FOR PROTECTION OF ANTI-CORRUPTION ADVOCATE JOHN MORLU

Date:

It is understandable that there is concern for the safety of John Morlu given the nature of his assignment and the political tensions in Liberia. As a former Auditor General and anti-corruption advocate, Morlu’s work to uncover and reclaim stolen funds from corrupt officials undoubtedly makes him a target for those who seek to prevent their illicit activities from being exposed. Lyndon Ponnie delves into the risk associated with Morlu’s job.

John Morlu, the former Auditor General of Liberia, has been a prominent figure in advocating for transparency and accountability in governance. As Auditor General, he has exposed various instances of corruption and financial mismanagement. As such, it is important to protect individuals like him who are working to combat corruption.

The need for his protection arises from the potential dangers and retributions he may face as a result of his anti-corruption work. This can include threats to his safety, and professional reputation, and even legal retaliation from those who may be implicated in corruption investigations.

Providing protection for anti-corruption crusaders like John Morlu is essential not only for their individual well-being but also for the larger goal of promoting integrity and good governance within society. It may involve measures such as personal security details, legal support, and international advocacy for their safety.

The recent deaths of auditors involved in exposing corruption only serve to highlight the serious risks involved in such endeavors. Morlu who is tasked by President-elect Joe Boakai to take on criminals in successive governments to locate and retrieve stolen public monies is slated to relocate to Liberia from the United States to take on his new Job.

Given the circumstances, it is crucial for those who support Morlu’s efforts to prioritize his security. This includes both the government and concerned citizens working together to ensure his protection. It is also essential that law enforcement agencies are vigilant and take necessary steps to safeguard Morlu as he carries out his duties.

In addition to physical security measures, it may also be beneficial for Morlu to have a robust support network that includes legal and diplomatic assistance both domestically and internationally. Ensuring that he has avenues for seeking assistance and protection if the need arises can be instrumental in safeguarding his well-being.

It is imperative that efforts are made to create an environment in which individuals like John Morlu can carry out their anti-corruption work without fear for their safety. Such work is vital for the prosperity and rule of law in Liberia, and it is essential that those striving to combat corruption are afforded the necessary protection to carry out their duties without intimidation or threats.
