MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung will convene a major energy sector retreat on his farm outside Ganta City, Nimba County, from February 8 to 9, 2025. The gathering will bring together current and former energy sector leaders, policymakers, technical experts, and private sector stakeholders to develop a roadmap for addressing Liberia’s persistent electricity challenges.
The retreat aims to foster dialogue on energy policy, evaluate regulatory frameworks, and design a four-year strategic energy plan aligned with the government’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development. Discussions will center on Liberia’s transition to sustainable energy, with a focus on regulatory bottlenecks, investment challenges, and policy reforms.
Key agencies expected to lead these discussions include the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC), Rural and Renewable Energy Agency (RREA), Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission (LERC), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The retreat follows President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s issuance of Executive Order No. 137, which amended Executive Order No. 120 to establish a high-level Steering Committee chaired by Vice President Koung. The committee is tasked with overseeing the implementation of the St. Paul River 2nd Hydro Power Plant project and the Solar Independent Power Producer initiative, both of which are critical to Liberia’s renewable energy development.
