NIMBA COUNTY, LIBERIA – Several senior and junior public officials from Joseph Boakai’s government have been observed campaigning in the Nimba County Bye-election. This action directly contravenes Liberia’s Code of Conduct for public servants. The situation is noteworthy as the Unity Party had previously accused officials from George Weah’s administration of similar breaches. However, now that they hold state power, these officials are engaging in the very behavior they once criticized.
Our correspondents in Nimba have identified the following public officials campaigning for the Unity Party candidate Nya D. Twayen, Jr:
- Othello Mansuoh – Deputy Minister for Administration, Ministry of Labour
- Victor Kpaseh – Deputy Director for Administration, FDA
- Benedict Dolo – Deputy Minister for Small Business, Ministry of Commerce
- Arthur Wongbah – Assistant Minister for Administration, Ministry of Defence
- Clifford Konah – Assistant Minister for Teachers Training, Ministry of Education
- Mo Ali – Managing Director, Water and Sewer Corporation
- Amos Tweh – Managing Director, LPRC
- Dah-yu Miayen – Deputy Director for Administration, CSA
- Prince Gbieu – Board Chair, Lottery Authority
- Dorr Cooper – Inspector General, Ministry of Commerce
- Robert Wilson – Deputy Director General for Operations, GSA
- Bob Karto – Deputy Director of National Food Agency
- Kou Meapeh Gono – Superintendent, Nimba County
Additionally, campaign activities in Nimba involved deputy ministers from the Ministry of Finance, Nocal’s Deputy for Finance and Investment Sekou Dukuly, Managing Director of NPA Luther Tarpeh, Board Chairman of NPA, Vice President Jeremiah Kung, and officials from the Ministry of State and Ministry of Youth and Sports.
These actions display a blatant disregard for the Code of Conduct, casting doubts on the accountability and ethical standards of the current administration. The public awaits to see what punitive measures will be implemented to uphold the integrity of public service in Liberia.
