The All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) has noted with regret and sadness the resumption of hostilities between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the Republic of Sudan.
The armed confrontation which broke out on 15 April has escalated into a full-blown armed conflict resulting in loss of lives and destruction of property is indeed an embarrassment to the people of Africa.
This is a major setback to the progress made towards restoring democracy and peace in Sudan.
We urge the sides involved in the armed conflict to ceasefire, resume talks, and finalize the framework agreement toward a peaceful transition to democracy.
We are appealing for the security and safety of civilians, many of whom are still trapped in locations where there is combat. The people of Sudan have had enough and deserve peace.
We urge the African Union Peace and Security Council, together with IGAD and countries in the Horn of Africa to engage in urgent high-level diplomacy to avert the situation before many lives are lost. We urge stakeholders to support ongoing efforts to return the country to the transition process toward a constitutional order.
We pray for peace.
Sincerely Yours in Christ,
Rev. Dr. Fidon Mwombeki
