MONROVIA – The Supreme Court of Liberia through the Justice-In-Chamber, Associate Justice Jamesetta Howard-Wolokollie has ordered the arrest of the living body of Stanley Ford, Director General of the Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA) for ‘Failure to Lift Designation’ Placed on Omega Insurance Group Inc.
It can be recalled in August 2022, the Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA) said through its Director General Stanley Ford that OMEGA refused and failed to file STRs and CTRs with the FIA as required by law, adding that OMEGA has also refused and failed to allow the FIU to inspect and examine its books and records, contrary to law and for reasons known to it. This non-compliance is continual, inappropriate, and suspicious on the part of OMEGA and its Managing Director Ganjay L. Ananaba.
FIA at the time said that Mr. Ananaba and OMEGA display not only a hostile and arrogant posture toward the rule of law and blatant refusal to meet their statutory obligation but are also preventing regulators from carrying out statutory mandates, thereby creating huge vulnerabilities in Liberia’s financial space for obvious personal gains.
But the Supreme Court on Thursday, December 28, 2023, instructed its court officers to order the arrest of the FIA Director General for ‘‘Failure to Lift Designation’ Placed on Omega Insurance Group Inc.’
The court order states: You are hereby commanded to arrest the living body of STANLEY S. FORD, for CONTEMPT OF COURT for his failure to lift the designation placed on Omega Insurance Group lnc. as per the Chambers Justice’s Order of December 20, 2023. lf arrested on a non-working day, Sunday, holiday, or during the night time, he should be detained at the nearest police station or depot and forwarded to the OFFICE 0F THE MARSHAL, SUPREME COURT OF LIBERIA, on the next working day at the hour of 10:00 a.m.”
