MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Majority Bloc of Liberia’s House of Representatives, under the leadership of the Committee on Ways, Means, and Finance, has pledged to approve the 2025 Draft National Budget by Friday, December 20, 2024. This announcement was made during Monday’s session, which focused on reviewing the budget’s expenditure component.
Rep. P. Mike Jury, the Chairperson of the Committee, confirmed that the House would make every effort to pass the budget this week, despite the ongoing political struggles over the Speaker’s position. Tensions persist between the Majority Bloc, led by Speaker Richard Koon, and the supporters of the contested Speaker Koffa.
The proposed 2025 National Budget totals $851.76 million USD, with domestic revenue contributing $791.76 million (93%) and external funding accounting for $60 million (7%). Rep. Jury also reiterated that the House would work in conjunction with the Liberian Senate to ensure the budget is passed without delay by the end of the week.
