MONROVIA – The U.S. government through its embassy near Monrovia has requested Liberia’s National Elections Commission (NEC), to grant all election observers including the U.S Mission observing the Liberian electoral process, full access to polling stations and at the time of vote tallying on Election Day, during the country’s elections next month.
The Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy near Monrovia, Catherine Rodriguez, made the disclosure at a midweek press round table with members of the local media.
Liberians go to the polls on 10 October in the country’s general and presidential elections, to elect a horde of lawmakers, a president, and a vice president.
“The U.S. Embassy through USAID is directly supporting both international and domestic election observer missions, as well as our own mission observing the election process across the country,” Rodriguez disclosed.
As a longstanding partner of Liberia, the United States along with other members of the international community, has been working closely with the NEC to make sure that all election observers have full access to polling stations and at the time of vote tallying on polling day, next month, according to Rodriguez.
The U.S. diplomat observed that the eyes of the world are focused on Liberia’s elections and how the electioneering process is managed.
She used the occasion to applaud the local media, for what she termed, the vital work Liberian journalists are doing daily to objectively report and inform the Liberian public about the most important issues, indicating that Liberians have a rich heritage of being the oldest republic in Africa and that citizens of the country are extremely, and rightly, proud of such history.
She reminded Liberians that they have a solemn responsibility to flock to the polls on 10 October to cast their votes in order to choose their leaders and representatives.
Howbeit, she emphasized that it is important that the George Weah administration must ensure that the 10 October elections are fair, free, and peaceful, and to as well hold accountable those that would attempt to disrupt the electoral process.
“Officials must also ensure that the government invests an adequate level of money, personnel, and organizational resources to protect its citizens, candidates, polling stations, and election workers from intimidation or harm,” she stressed.
Yes, it will be very important for the American in collaboration with joint International observers be fully involved in the process for transparency. This will serve as a deterrence to the trouble makers who are beating war drums around here.
Nonsense! The NEC doesn’t take instructions from foreigners nor from a foreign government.
Do people and other nations instruct The American Elections Commission on giving international observers full access to polling stations and to count in of ballots?
The goal of foreign governments is to destabilize the country using the elections as a pretext particularly the Americas.
No foreinger has the right to decide who should become president of Liberia however powerful they may be; Liberians decide who becomes president and Liberians will not accept colonial intimidations from white masters.
The so called American Charges d affairs will not intimidate nor bully the National Elections Commissions with the threat of sanctions. We are a sovereign nation!
Our elections are for the benefits of Liberians not the white man, whomever that is elected or will be elected should not be America’s problem .
What’re the examples of your own elections transparency and their elements of fairness when till date Donald Trump is being persecuted for speaking out against a corrupt illegitimate president in the White House?
What were the fairness of the Nigerian Electoral process when you endorsed a Guinean in Bola and financed a corrupt court process simple because Bola has transformed into your pawn to wage war against his own Africans through ECOWAS to enable American exploitation of Niger’s uranium!
This nonsense will stop!
You will not influence these elections no matter what.
Nonsense! Should Africans continously be subjected to the white man’s rule?
This nonsense of imperialism in Africa will stop!
Liberia doesn’t need America! We have had enough of their destabilizing our country and turning us into refugees and beggars while they loot our natural resources..
