Former TRC Chairman Cllr. Jerome Verdier has confirmed that the pending War Crimes Court for Liberia will definitely take place within its borders.
He believes that reports suggesting the court would be held in Ghana were spread by detractors. Currently, there is a legislation in the court to be forwarded to the National Legislature for the creation of the court.
Members of the Lower House have already approved a resolution which is greatly appreciated by all parties involved. The formation of the court is expected to involve cooperation between Liberia and the international community.
The establishment of the court will provide both victims and perpetrators of war crimes with the opportunity to bring their cases before a tribunal. The legislation governing the court’s proceedings and operations will ensure transparency and accountability throughout the process. Cllr. Verdier spoke on the Spoon Talk Show last evening.
