MOTHER OF JESSICA LLOYD ACCUSES JUDGE NELSON CHINEH OF CORRUPTION, CLAIMS BRIBERY IN DECLARING RICHARDS NOT GUILTY

Date:

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Cynthia Lloyd, the grieving mother of Jessica Lloyd, has publicly accused Criminal Court B Judge Nelson Chineh of corruption. In an emotional press conference held on Sunday, April 21st, 2024, she described Judge Chineh as corrupt and alleged that he denied her daughter justice.

“I will state it clearly: justice was not served. I am not satisfied with Judge Nelson Chineh’s ruling. Despite the evidence we presented in court, Judge Chineh deemed it insufficient. He has released Lucas Richards, who lacks a witness, leaving us in this state of trauma and frustration,” said Cynthia Lloyd.

On December 14, 2023, Lucas Richards was indicted by the grand jury of Montserrado County for aggravated assault and criminal attempt to commit murder, both second-degree felonies. The state alleged that Richards had the intent to harm Jessica Lloyd on September 14, 2023.

However, on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, Presiding Judge Nelson Chineh cleared Lucas Richards of all charges. In his ruling, Judge Chineh disclosed that Jessica Lloyd testified in court, denying any harm by Richards. He noted that the evidence linking Richards to the alleged crimes was insufficient, contrary to media reports.

Following the verdict, Lucas Richards was released from custody, concluding the legal proceedings. The acquittal received mixed reactions, with some expressing relief for Richards and others questioning the case’s outcome.

Cynthia Lloyd, surrounded by family members including Jessica Lloyd, expressed her deep frustration and disappointment. She believes Judge Nelson Chineh’s actions obstructed justice for her daughter, shattering her family’s trust in the legal system and raising questions about the judge’s integrity.

The press conference ignited a heated debate, with many demanding an investigation into Judge Nelson Chineh’s conduct. The allegations, if proven true, could have serious implications for the justice system.

The case underscores challenges in legal proceedings, especially in cases with serious allegations like attempted murder. It emphasizes the need for a fair and thorough judicial process to ensure justice for all parties involved.

Cynthia Lloyd told journalists that the Lloyd family is seeking justice and called on Liberians to join them in their fight for justice. Despite the challenges she said, they remain hopeful that the truth will prevail.

Meanwhile, Lucas Richards, the central figure in this legal drama, has quietly left Liberia and is now in the United States. His departure deepens the dissatisfaction felt by Jessica Lloyd’s family and those seeking answers and accountability.
