DR. NYAN TO DELIVER UL COMMENCEMENT ADDRESS, HIGHLIGHTING VISION FOR SCIENTIFIC AND AGRICULTURE INNOVATION

Date:

MONROVIA – Biomedical Scientist and Inventor, Dr. Dougbeh Chris Nyan, M.D., the newly appointed Director-General of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), will serve as the Commencement Convocation Speaker for the University of Liberia’s College of Science and Technology, College of Agriculture, and Sinje Technical College. The highly anticipated event is scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

Dr. Nyan, an internationally renowned public health expert and biomedical innovator, expressed his deep sense of honor and humility in being chosen to address the graduating classes. “It is a privilege to stand before the next generation of Liberia’s scientific and agricultural leaders. I am humbled to have this opportunity to inspire these bright minds as they embark on their professional journeys,” Dr. Nyan said in a statement today.

Having gained recognition for his groundbreaking invention of a rapid diagnostic test for infectious diseases, Dr. Nyan’s contributions to public health and biomedical science have earned him a global platform. His leadership at NPHIL comes at a crucial time as Liberia continues to strengthen its health infrastructure and bolster its preparedness against disease outbreaks.

In his speech, Dr. Nyan is expected to emphasize the importance of innovation, research, and technological advancement in addressing the country’s public health and agricultural challenges. As Liberia looks to diversify its economy and build resilience in its food systems, his address will likely call for greater investments in science and technology education, research-driven agriculture, and health solutions tailored to Liberia’s unique challenges.

The commencement ceremony will celebrate the academic achievements of hundreds of graduates across the three colleges, many of whom are expected to contribute to Liberia’s development in fields such as engineering, environmental science, agribusiness, and health sciences.

Dr. Nyan’s experience and passion for public health and technology make him an inspiring figure for graduates ready to step into roles that will shape Liberia’s future. His message of resilience, curiosity, and innovation is set to resonate with graduates eager to take on the responsibilities of nation-building.

As Liberia directs both the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century, tomorrow’s commencement ceremony will be a reminder of the critical role education, research, and scientific discovery play in ensuring the nation’s prosperity.
