REP. QUIOH URGES FELLOW LAWMAKERS TO PRIORITIZE RULE OF LAW AND PUBLIC TRUST

Date:

MONROVIA, LIBERIA –  In a passionate appeal to his colleagues in the Legislature, Representative Thomas Romeo Quioh of Sinoe County’s District #1, who serves as Chairman of the Committee on Education and Public Administration, called on lawmakers to uphold the principles of the rule of law and retain the trust of the Liberian people. His letter, titled “An Appeal to Uphold the Rule of Law and Trust of the People,” urged lawmakers to remain steadfast in their commitment to fairness, transparency, and integrity in Liberia’s governance.

In his message, Rep. Quioh emphasized the fundamental role that the rule of law plays in fostering national unity and societal progress. “Our nation’s foundation rests on principles that give every citizen confidence in the fairness and strength of our legal institutions. When those principles are upheld, we all thrive—regardless of differing beliefs. When they falter, we are all at risk,” Quioh wrote.

The representative further stressed that lawmakers bear a responsibility to ensure that laws are respected and applied impartially, a duty that holds special importance during times of political tension or uncertainty. “Following the rule of law means placing principle over personal interest or temporary gains. It means ensuring that our democratic system remains strong, even when it may be challenging to do so,” he asserted.

Quioh encouraged his fellow lawmakers to recognize the weight of their actions and the influence they wield as public servants. By choosing integrity over short-term benefits, he argued, they could strengthen public confidence in Liberia’s institutions and set a standard of principled leadership for generations to come. He expressed hope that their decisions would not only reflect their dedication to justice but also resonate as examples of ethical governance on the world stage.

“As a lawmaker, you have both the power and the duty to ensure that our laws are respected, transparent, and impartially applied. This power comes with a responsibility to uphold trust in our institutions,” Rep. Quioh said, concluding with a reminder of the lasting impact their choices would have on the future of Liberia.

Quioh’s letter reflects a growing call for ethical governance among Liberia’s leadership, particularly as the country grapples with a heightened demand for accountability and transparency. His message resonates strongly in a political climate where the rule of law remains critical to preserving stability and promoting equitable treatment of all citizens.

The letter serves as a rallying cry for Liberia’s lawmakers to embody the principles of justice and integrity, a call to action that Quioh hopes will inspire not only his colleagues but the Liberian populace at large.
