ETHIOPIAN AIRLINES RESUMES FLIGHTS TO LIBERIA AFTER EXTENDED HIATUS

Date:

MONROVIA – After years of suspension, Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest airline, resumed passenger flights to Monrovia on November 30, 2024. This marks a significant step in re-establishing direct air links between the two nations. The inaugural flight ceremony was attended by top officials from Liberia and Ethiopia, along with Ethiopian Airlines executives, highlighting the importance of this event.

In a statement, Ethiopian Airlines emphasized the broader impact of its return to Monrovia:

“The resumption of services to Monrovia is a major milestone, expanding travel opportunities for passengers and contributing to economic integration between Ethiopia and Liberia.”

The resumption is expected to boost trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges between the two countries. By improving connectivity, it opens access to global markets, supporting Liberia’s ongoing socio-economic development.

“We are thrilled to restart our flights to Monrovia, reinforcing our commitment to connecting Africa and advancing intra-African trade,” stated Mesfin Tasew, Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines.

The airline will operate three weekly flights between Addis Ababa and Monrovia, offering passengers seamless connections to Ethiopian Airlines’ extensive global network. The flight schedule is as follows:

Flight ET933: Departs Addis Ababa on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 10:30 AM, arriving in Monrovia at 1:50 PM.

Flight ET932: Departs Monrovia on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays at 10:20 AM, arriving in Addis Ababa at 8:40 PM.

These flights will serve both business and leisure travelers, offering convenient connections to worldwide destinations. Ethiopian Airlines will deploy its modern aircraft to ensure a comfortable and efficient journey for all passengers.

As a key player in African aviation, Ethiopian Airlines has long been a driving force in boosting economic growth and cultural exchanges across the continent. Its return to Liberia underscores the airline’s dedication to fostering regional cooperation and connecting communities.

“Our flights to Monrovia reflect our commitment to bridging communities and stimulating economic growth in West Africa,” Tasew remarked. “With our state-of-the-art fleet, we are committed to providing top-notch service, promoting tourism, and enhancing trade in the region.”

Monrovia, known for its vibrant culture and historical importance, will once again be easily accessible to international travelers. Visitors can explore Liberia’s natural beauty, including pristine beaches, lush rainforests, and historic landmarks.

Ethiopian Airlines’ return also presents a valuable opportunity for Liberia to attract more tourists and foreign investment, further positioning it as a prime destination in West Africa. As the airline reopens Liberia’s air connectivity, it marks a new phase in the country’s pursuit of economic growth and international integration.

The Liberia Civil Aviation Authority (LCAA) celebrated the arrival of Ethiopian Airlines’ inaugural flight to Liberia, which landed at Roberts International Airport on November 30, coinciding with the birthday of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, adding a special significance to the event.

The LCAA congratulated the President and the people of Liberia, emphasizing that Ethiopian Airlines’ return will strengthen connectivity, facilitate trade, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges between the two nations. The new route is expected to bring substantial economic benefits to both countries.
