MONROVIA, LIBERIA – President Joseph N. Boakai on Monday, February 10, 2025, welcomed his Sierra Leonean counterpart, President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, and First Lady Fatima Bio to Liberia. Their visit comes at the invitation of President Boakai to participate in the 68th Anniversary of the Armed Forces of Liberia.
According to an Executive Mansion statement, Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti received President Bio and his delegation at the Roberts International Airport on behalf of President Boakai. The visit underscores the strong diplomatic ties between Liberia and Sierra Leone.
President Bio will serve as the Special Guest of Honor and deliver the keynote address at the Armed Forces Day celebration, scheduled for Tuesday, February 11, at the Barclay Training Center in Monrovia. The annual event honors the service and sacrifices of the Armed Forces of Liberia. This year’s theme, “Sustaining Our Peace and Security through Stakeholder Engagement: The Role of the Armed Forces,” aligns with President Bio’s military background as a retired Brigadier General.
Following their arrival, President Boakai and First Lady Kartumu Y. Boakai hosted an official dinner in honor of the Sierra Leonean delegation at their residence in the Rehab Community, Paynesville. The gathering was attended by dignitaries, including the Sierra Leonean Ambassador to Liberia and Sierra Leone’s Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka. Key members of President Boakai’s cabinet, led by Foreign Minister Nyanti, were also present.
