LIBERIA CANNOT AFFORD TO FAIL THE GOVERNANCE TEST!

Date:

MONROVIA – About 14 months into the administration of President Joseph N. Boakai, many ordinary Liberians are questioning the direction of the country and the focus of the government on key national concerns.

These concerns include the drug pandemic, prevailing human suffering, insufficient social services, amongst others. For a nation which population is about 60% youth and about 20% fear to be living on drugs or being destroyed by illicit drugs, ordinary Liberians hope the new government will focus on these existential threats.

To the majority of ordinary Liberians, nothing substantial seems to be working in the country. According to Bishop Kortu K Brown, it appears like the country is set again “to fail the Governance test”.

Speaking to a group of young people on the campus of New Water in the Desert Assembly Apostolic Pentecostal Church on Monday, March 24, 2025, the astute clergyman wondered why the government has wasted so much time in resolving the leadership crisis at the House of Representatives. “This is a failure of the Governance test”.

With the years of experience in national governance of President Joseph N Boakai, nobody expected a conflict of such nature to last for the last six months and technically paralyzed the smooth functioning of the government, Bishop Brown declared.

As the oldest independent country in Africa, should ECOWAS always come to mediate our conflicts, but it’s happening because the country is failing the governance test, he said, adding, “to whom much is given, much is required”.

The Bishop of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church and former president of the Interreligious Council of Liberia, challenged the Government to rise up and ensure that they don’t fail the Governance test which calls for the application of rule of law, conciliation, patriotism, prioritizing the concerns of ordinary Liberians over the needs of the big shots in the country, amongst others.
