LDEA SEIZES $27,891 WORTH OF COCAINE AT BO WATERSIDE, ARRESTS NIGERIAN SUSPECT

Date:

MONROVIA – The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has intercepted a cache of cocaine valued at $27,891 (approximately LD 5,299,290) during a routine inspection at the Bo Waterside Port of Entry, leading to the arrest of a Nigerian national in Monrovia.

The bust occurred on March 27, 2025, at around 3:30 PM, when LDEA officers stopped a vehicle entering Liberia from Sierra Leone. The vehicle, bearing plate number A113952, was being operated by 45-year-old Francis K. Davis, a conductor from West Point, Monrovia. While conducting a standard security check at the Bo Waterside warehouse, officers noticed that Davis had left behind a car tail light, raising suspicions.

Upon inspecting the abandoned item, officers discovered five packets of a white powdery substance concealed within. Laboratory tests confirmed the substance to be cocaine. When questioned, Davis admitted to knowing about the package but claimed he was unaware it contained drugs. He stated that a woman in Sierra Leone had asked him to deliver the item to her husband, a truck driver in Liberia.

Seeking to track down the intended recipient, the LDEA organized a specialized four-member team, led by the Chief of the Special Drug Squad. Davis cooperated with authorities, arranging to meet the recipient in the Duala area. The operation led to the arrest of 40-year-old Michael Chidiebeara, a Nigerian national residing on Benson Street, Monrovia, at around 9:30 PM.

During interrogation, Chidiebeara confessed to ownership of the narcotics and is now facing drug trafficking charges. The LDEA has reaffirmed its commitment to combating the illegal drug trade and ensuring justice is served, emphasizing that such operations are crucial to keeping Liberia safe from the dangers of narcotics.
