REPRESENTATIVE BERNARD BENSON PLEDGES TO UPHOLD SUPREME COURT MANDATE

MONROVIA — Montserrado County District #17 Representative Bernard Benson has reaffirmed his commitment to the Constitution of Liberia, announcing that he will fully abide by the recent ruling of the Supreme Court mandating his participation under the leadership of Speaker Jonathan Fonati Koffa.

In a statement issued on Sunday, April 27, 2025, Representative Benson addressed citizens of Electoral District #17, citing Article 66 of the 1986 Constitution, which designates the Supreme Court as the final arbiter of constitutional matters and the ultimate authority on appellate cases.

“On January 15, 2024, I made a vow before God to abide, uphold, and defend the Constitution of the Republic of Liberia,” Benson stated. He emphasized that his decision to adhere to the April 23, 2025 ruling of the Supreme Court is in strict observance of this vow.

Benson declared that, in keeping with the Court’s mandate, he will sit under the gavel of Speaker Jonathan Fonati Koffa when the session of the 55th National Legislature reconvenes. His decision signals respect for the authority of the Judiciary and underscores the constitutional obligation of lawmakers to honor rulings from the nation’s highest court.

“As lawmakers, we took a vow to uphold and protect the Constitution, so I encourage my colleagues to join me in respecting the Supreme Court’s opinion with regard to Article 66 of the Constitution of the Republic of Liberia,” Benson said.

He concluded his remarks by invoking a blessing upon the nation, stating, “May God bless us all.”
