Theresa Mombo, a Liberian woman who currently resides in the United States of America has complained of threats and harassment after a disputed wedding with Francis Amacchie in 2013. Francis has been accused by ex-fiancé Estella Wright of abandoning four children they had together prior to his marriage.

According to eyewitness account, Estella, who is said to be a police officer  even attempted to disrupt the wedding of Francis and Theresa which was being held in Logan Town after receiving tip-off from friends about the conduct of the ceremony without her knowledge and that of the children. Eyewitness account furthered that officers from the nearby Liberia National Police depot were later called in to extinguish the commotion which had already caused a near cancelation of the wedding.

Estella told eyewitnesses that her action was based on her fiancé earlier action of abandonment of her and his four children and taking up another wife in a secret manner with no regards for her wellbeing and that of the children. Francis is a Nigerian, who retired as a UN worker and yellow mechanical engineer and operator of heavy earth moving machines or bulldozer who had lived more than 40 years in Liberia.

Estella explained that even though she and Francis had stayed together as lovers for over twenty years but they did not cement the relationship by getting marry. However, she claimed that the Liberian law recognized prolonged cohabitation which gave her the right to be aware of whatever other relationship Francis may want to get into. “We met in the 1980s while I was still in school. We met while we were still teenagers and together we had four children. My children are all in the university and adults who are married with families”, she narrated.

Despite Estella’s attempts to disrupt the wedding, eyewitness account said the wedding still continued. Following the ceremony Francis, the embattled husband was quoted as saying “I decided to move on from Estella because she did not respect me. I have found peace, love and respect in my new relationship and that is why I am here”.

Francis continued “for all the time we spent together, Estella was only after my money. I did not think she loved me that much. Not a single day we discussed about getting marry”, he said.

However, since the incident, Theresa has complained of threats from individuals believed to be associated with Estella, the former partner of Francis. Theresa said the accused individuals have gone to her home in Brewerville on some occasions.  In the wake of it all, Theresa is calling on the relevant authorities to ensure her life is protected from hooligans.
