An opportunity has arisen for those wanting to pursue a career in psychology at the University of Liberia. This development is exciting and overwhelming, especially with so many spheres to consider as the proposed Psychology Program curriculum presentation on Friday, 17 October 2025. The three-hour academic activities was held at the Thelma E Duncan Sawyer Faculty Lounge in Fendall. It was attended by the various departments’ chairpersons, professors, instructors, staffs and the Dean. The exercise was uniquely conducted.
The ACS College as a whole including the faculty, academic team and Dean have approved the proposed Psychology program curriculum; signifying that it meets institutional goals, international standards and learners needs. The program offers a four-year Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Psychology.
The process ensures that the curriculum is well-structured, aligned with the University’s mission. It will go through a formal institutional process, starting with the Vice President for Academic Affairs and later presented to the ACC and the Faculty Senate.
The curriculum requiring 130 credit hours, composed of general required courses and core courses. The curriculum is divided into two main parts: General required courses and core courses with three concentrations: (a) Clinical Psychology, (b) Developmental Psychology and (c) Educational Psychology, respectively. The group of well-qualified faculty with deep understanding of the subject are prepared and ready to teach in the program. They include three Ph.D. and five Master’s holders.
The Ad-Hoc Technical Working Committee for the establishment of Psychology Program is chaired by Prof. Dr. Moses C.T. Jarbo, Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology while Mr. Andrew K. Dean, MSc.( distinction) in Clinical Psychology Co-Chaired the Committee and Prof. Dr. D. Elliott Wreh-Wilson, Ph.D in Philosophy serves as Advisor. Prof. Dr. Anviti Gupta, BA MA, Ph.D. in Psychology who’s Dean of Sharda School of Humanities and Social Sciences serves as Advisor.
Others include: Assistant Prof. Cllr. Mark Bedor-Wla Freeman, LLB, MA, MA serves as Legal Advisor; Mr. Michael S. Seator, BA in Psychology and MA in Educational Supervision was named Member and Mr. Boimah Coleman, MA in Clinical Psychology serve as Secretary.
The Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Josephus M. Gray, BA in Communication, MA and Ph.D. in International Relations serves as Ex-officio. The Minister of Health and other medical experts at the Ministry of Health and Jackson Doe Hospital also contributed significantly to this formulation of curriculum of the Psychology program.
