PRESIDENT BOAKAI CONSOLES FORMER VICE PRESIDENT JEWEL HOWARD TAYLOR OVER DEATH OF SON

MONROVIA — President Joseph Nyuma Boakai on Wednesday, January 21, paid a condolence visit to former Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor at her Congo Town residence following the death of her son, Charles Philip Taylor, who passed away in Monrovia the same day.

The President was received upon arrival by Madam Taylor’s eldest sister, affectionately known as Aunty P, who welcomed him in a traditional manner before ushering him into the residence. The visit was marked by deep emotion as family members and close associates gathered to mourn the loss.

During the encounter, former Vice President Taylor was visibly overcome with grief and broke down in tears as President Boakai offered words of comfort and solidarity to her and the bereaved family. The atmosphere reflected the profound sorrow surrounding the sudden loss.

Earlier, Madam Taylor had publicly announced the passing of her son in an emotional statement, describing the depth of her pain and the central role Philip played in her life. “With deep sorrow, I announce the passing of my beloved son, Philip. My heart is shattered. The pain feels overwhelming and constant,” she wrote.

She described her son as “love, light, and purpose,” noting that his presence shaped her days and gave meaning to her world. According to her, words were insufficient to fully capture who he was and what he meant to the family.

In her message, the former Vice President appealed to the public for prayers and strength as the family navigates the period of mourning. “I ask for prayers, strength, and grace during this time of loss,” she stated.

Madam Taylor also expressed gratitude to those who have reached out with messages of sympathy and support, saying their compassion has provided comfort during the family’s grief.

Charles Philip Taylor died on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, in Monrovia. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in the coming days.
