LRA EXPLORES SOUTH KOREAN PARTNERSHIPS TO ACCELERATE TAX MODERNIZATION

MONROVIA – The Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) is advancing its digital transformation and revenue modernization agenda through high level engagements with leading South Korean institutions aimed at strengthening tax administration, improving taxpayer services, and enhancing domestic revenue mobilization.

The engagements, led by Commissioner General James Dorbor Jallah, form part of a weeklong visit to the Republic of Korea at the invitation of the National Tax Service (NTS) of Korea, one of Asia’s most advanced revenue administrations. The visit is focused on building partnerships, promoting knowledge exchange, and identifying practical solutions to support Liberia’s ongoing tax administration reforms.

South Korea is widely recognized for its advanced digital systems and efficient public services, including the use of technology to simplify tax administration, improve compliance, and enhance service delivery. These experiences offer valuable lessons for Liberia as the LRA continues efforts to modernize its operations and make tax services more accessible and efficient.

During the first phase of the visit, the LRA delegation held strategic discussions with officials of Hyundai Steel, LG Consultancy Services, and LG Electronics. The organizations are internationally recognized for their expertise in technology, digital systems, data management, and business innovation.

The discussions focused on practical solutions that can support the modernization of Liberia’s revenue administration system. Areas of interest included digital taxpayer services, electronic tax processes, data management, cybersecurity, compliance monitoring, and the use of technology to improve operational efficiency.

The delegation also explored how technology can help automate services, strengthen compliance monitoring, improve data analysis, and support faster decision making. Such innovations have the potential to reduce administrative bottlenecks, improve transparency, enhance taxpayer convenience, and strengthen revenue collection.

Speaking during the engagements, Commissioner General Jallah emphasized the importance of learning from successful global institutions as the LRA continues its modernization journey.

“Learning from global leaders in innovation and digital transformation will help accelerate our efforts to modernize tax administration, strengthen compliance, and improve taxpayer services,” Jallah said.

He noted that the LRA is particularly interested in solutions that can strengthen digital systems, improve compliance management, reduce revenue leakages, and support evidence-based decision making.

Officials from the Korean institutions welcomed the LRA’s modernization agenda and expressed interest in exploring future collaboration in technology solutions, institutional development, and knowledge sharing.

The delegation includes Domestic Tax Commissioner Margaret P. Krote, Assistant Commissioner for the Management Information Systems Division Kollie U. Zayzay, and other LRA officials. The team is expected to continue engagements with government agencies, technology firms, development partners, and other institutions during the remainder of the visit.

The visit is expected to explore potential partnership arrangements in areas such as capacity building, technology solutions, digital tax administration, and improved taxpayer service delivery.

For Liberian taxpayers, the long-term benefits of these engagements could include faster and more convenient access to tax services, stronger digital platforms, improved compliance systems, and a more efficient revenue administration capable of supporting national development.

The visit represents another important step in the LRA’s efforts to leverage innovation, technology, and international cooperation to build a modern, transparent, and responsive tax administration for Liberia.
