MONROVIA, LIBERIA — The Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) has dishonorably discharged two military personnel following the circulation of a viral video showing them manhandling a woman.
The two former soldiers were publicly presented for the first time following their dismissal, as the AFL Chief of Staff ordered the Liberia National Police (LNP) to handcuff them.
In a further disciplinary measure, the military chief ordered that the families of the dismissed personnel be removed from AFL barracks and directed that they be taken around the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex area to find their way home.
Describing the dismissed soldiers as “bad apples” within the Armed Forces, the Chief of Staff signaled the military’s position that misconduct by individual personnel would not be tolerated.
The action follows public attention surrounding the video, which sparked concerns about the conduct of military personnel and the treatment of civilians.
The AFL’s decision to dishonorably discharge the two soldiers underscores the seriousness with which the military leadership is treating the incident.
However, the incident also raises broader questions about discipline, respect for civilians, and accountability within the country’s security institutions.
