MONROVIA – Liberia’s main opposition political party, the Unity Party (UP), through its National Youth Congress, has linked the Secretary General of the ruling party (Coalition for Democratic Change), Monrovia City Mayor, Jefferson Koijee, to the death of the President of the Yana Boys Association of Liberia, Mr. Prince Kollie.
Mr. Kollie died recently, reportedly as a result of a tragic motor accident, but the National Youth League of UP is of the belief that the incident that led to the death of the President of the Yana Boys Association, a conglomeration of street sellers and hustlers in Monrovia and its environs, was instead a deliberate car-ramming attack carried out with the purpose of assassinating Mr. Kollie, on the alleged orders of ruling party’s Secretary General, Mayor Koijee.
Mr. Kollie, according to the UP National Youth Congress, prior to his mysterious death, was a staunch supporter of Unity Party’s candidate, Ambassador Joseph Nyumah Boakai’s presidential bid.
In a statement released to the press on Thursday, the UP National Congress disclosed that after the death of Mr. Kollie, its intelligence bureau launched an investigation, following which the Youth Congress says it has discovered among other things that the death of the President of the Yana Boys Association was a deliberate car-ramming incident masterminded allegedly by Mayor Koijee, as a part of implementing against political opponents of the ruling party, critical civil society voices, and other influential political actors who are not supporters of President Weah, a kill-list allegedly drawn up by the CDC-led government.
The UP National Youth Congress, which divulged that it is in possession of a “Kill List” allegedly compiled by the CDC-led government, indicated that it condemns what it referred to as the CDC-led government’s alleged leaked assassination list containing major opposition leaders, and called on the Liberia National Police (LNP), to investigate the matter, and provide protection for every Liberian.
Prior to his demise, according to the UP National Youth Congress, Kollie “was being monitored for days before the ultimate “kill plan” was executed using an accident style.”
The National Youth Congress of the Unity Party narrated that before the fatal car-crash that claimed his life, Kollie and some friends of his, were given inducements to commandeer the membership of the Yana Boys Association to turn out for a CDC’s petition ceremony, something, according to the Youth Congress, Mr. Kollie refused to do.
“The Youth Congress recalled that there is a litany of cases of similar nature that has gone cold with no proper investigation because of the governing CDC’s complicity in these murders and extra-judicial killings.
“The Evergreen National Youth congress of the Unity Party condemns these archaic and barbaric political maneuverings and calls on the Liberian National Police to ensure the safety of all Liberians moving towards these crucial time of the country’s pending elections, regardless of their political persuasions,” said the Youth Congress, which indicated that it stands against the misrule and wanton corruptions in the already retired Government of President Weah.
The National Youth Congress of the Unity Party is meanwhile, calling on the Ministry of Justice to indict and prosecute perpetrators of what it described as heinous crimes perpetrated against peaceful Liberians.
“In the same disposition, the Congress also calls on our International Partners to include: MRU, ECOWAS, AU, EU, and the US to alert as the defunct CDC regime unleashes evil on critical voices in our democratic space, during these highly fragile political times,” the UP National Youth Congress’ statement indicated, adding that it will begin providing security for all members of the opposition bloc, if these matters are not independently investigated and adjudicated appropriately.
