WONGOSOL SADDENS BY THE REPORTED ATTACK ON CLLR. SCOTT’S RESIDENCE

Date:

MONROVIA – The Women NGOs Secretariat of Liberia (WONGOSOL) says it’s deeply saddened and regrets the incident reported from the residence of former Chief Justice, Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott in Brewerville, District 17, and Montserrado County on February 22, 2023, at around 9 – 10 pm during the evening hours.

According to WONGOSOL’s Press Release issued under the signature of its Executive Director Madam Esther Yango, they were informed firsthand by the survivor that an armed robber invaded her home on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, after two failed attempts on the 8th & 9th of February 2022 respectively, resulting to the killing of one of her nieces and the severe wounding of another who were stabbed multiple times by the robber. A promising young lady lost her life in such a gruesome manner.

The release stated that the constitution of Liberia, the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights, and the Universal Declaration on Human Rights give all citizens the right to protection.

According to the release, WONGOSOL is so saddened that the former Chief Justice, Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott wasn’t given protection after two attempts at her residence.

“We strongly condemn this barbaric act and therefore, call on the Liberia National Police to speedily investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.”

“We, under the umbrella of WONGOSOL in solidarity with all other women condemn the repeated acts of violence perpetrated against women and children in Liberia. We are following this case with kin interest, while we closely watch the government of Liberia, through the Liberia National Police to act appropriately,” the release concluded.
