ALLIANCE OF PRO DEMOCRACY AND CIVIL ORGANIZATION IN LIBERIA CALLS SUPREME COURT TO ORDER

Date:

MONROVIA – The Alliance of Pro Democracy and Civil Society Organizations in Liberia has described as deceptive the ruling of the Supreme Court of Liberia which declared the passage of the National Budget and other actions of the Majority Bloc of the House of Representatives as illegal and unconstitutional.

In a press release issued on Sunday, April 27, 2025, the group stated, “While we acknowledge the Supreme Court as the highest court in the land, it is embarrassing that the Court would involve itself in acts of double standards.”

The Supreme Court knowing fully well that the actions of the Minority Bloc of the House of Representatives were illegal and unconstitutional appeared before the body to defend its budget which resulted into the passage of the National Budget into law thereby making the Supreme Court to receive salaries and allowances that grew out of an illegal and unconstitutional process.

Given the double standard posture of the Supreme Court, the Alliance of Pro Democracy and Civil Society Organizations in Liberia is calling on the Chief Justice and Associate Justices of the Supreme Court to immediately restitute or refund all salaries and allowances received from a budget that was passed illegally and unconstitutionally.

The Supreme Court has committed an impeachable offense and it behooves the Court to take note.
