AMOS SAWYER COLLEGE FACULTY AND DEAN HOLD INSTRUCTIVE INTERACTIVE SESSION ABOUT QUALITY TEACHING

MONROVIA – The Dean of Amos C.  Sawyer College of Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Liberia on Friday held an interactive session with over 250 Faculty Members, Chairpersons and Coordinators of the College at the VIP Lounge, UL Fendall Campus, Montserrado County.

The purpose of Friday’s meeting was to brief every faculty member of the College about the outcomes of the Dean’s visits to Sharda University in New Delhi, India and Paris, France to strengthen ties with higher institutions and widen partnership and collaboration.

The gathering was also used to inform everyone about progress, new trajectory, proposal projects, quality teaching and learning, quality pedagogy,  research, senior thesis,  faculty peer-reviewed publications,  scholarships, faculty sabbaticals program, new hiring and to appreciate the faculty and staffs for their dedication and commitment to move the college forward.

Everyone at the meeting was given the opportunity to express their views, make suggestions, comments and ask questions. While heads of newly established Certificate and Diploma programs briefed the Dean, Chairpersons and Faculty about progress. The Dean also informed the faculty that the College will be introducing MA degree programs in Mass Communication, Journalism and Sociology.

The Dean, Dr. Josephus M Gray also informed the gathering that effective this semester, Bachelor’s degree holders will no longer be hired to teach in the college except for those who are currently hired to teach in the College.

The Dean further instructed all departments to give joint final exams for courses with multiple sections, and mandated every instructor to submit course contents to heads of Departments for evaluation and approval before being used in classrooms for lessons.

The College has reintroduced Undergraduate Senior Thesis as a major requirement for successful completion of studies.

Students are required to write, defend and present a 50-page thesis on a  topic relating to the student’s discipline; the thesis must be defended in front of an academic jury of seven including Assistant, Associate and Full Professors.

Finally, Dr. Gray used the Friday meeting to salute the faculty members for the numerous sacrifices to impart quality education in the most important organs and future of Liberian society. Our motto: Sawyer College Is Everything! Press Release
