MONROVIA – The winner of the Academic Excellence Journalism Award in memory of an icon of Print Journalism in Liberia, Mr. Philip N. Wesseh will be announced on June 7, 2023, during the Prof. Amos C. Sawyer College of Social Sciences and Humanities awards ceremony to honor and recognize faculty, students, and staffs of the College.
The late Wesseh was an alumnus of the University of Liberia and a part-time instructor in the Department of Communication and Media Studies ( formerly Department of Mass Communication) where he earned a BA degree in Communication in 2002 and a LLB degree in Law from the Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law, University of Liberia.
Prior to his inevitable demise, Mr. Wesseh practiced as a professional journalist for over 40 unbroken years and rose from reporter to managing editor.
According to the Dean of the Prof Amos C. Sawyer College of Social Sciences and Humanities,
Dr. Josephus M. Gray, the annual award: “Philip N. Wesseh Academic Excellence Journalism Award” will be Awarded to a student or a faculty in the field of excellent Print Journalism whose work greatly impacted the College and University of Liberia, particularly the Liberian society through fair, balance, and objective scholastic work.
