Date:

MONROVIA – The Council of Patriots (COP), Organizers of the June 7, 2019, and January 6, 2020, Peaceful Protests have expelled Mr. Henry P. Costa, founding chairman of the movement for consistent ethical misconduct, solicitation of bribes, and institutional indiscipline.

In a press statement issued today, the COP further states that Mr. Costa has been leaking and handling over classified documents of the movement to Liberia’s Finance Minister, Samuel Doe-Tweah, Jr and sanctioned CDC’s criminal and Margibi County’s Senatorial Candidate, Mr. Nathaniel F. McGill including chat room discussions and many others for profitable and financial benefits.

According to the statement, COP views the act by Mr. Henry P. Costa as a quid pro quo and hereby announces his immediate expulsion from the movement.

“We are hereby calling on the media and the Liberian public to avoid doing business with Mr. Henry P. Costa in the name of the COP.”

Below is a full text of Mr. Henry P. Costa’s expulsion letter.

Mr. Henry P. Costa

Former Chairman Council of Patriots (COP).

Subject: Expulsion for Soliciting Bribes and Misconduct

Dear Mr. Henry P. Costa, I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to inform you about a matter of utmost seriousness that has come to the attention of the disciplinary committee of our beloved movement. After careful investigation and consideration, it has been determined that your involvement in soliciting bribes and engaging in misconduct is a serious breach of our organization’s code of conduct and ethical standards.

The evidence and testimonies collected during the investigation clearly indicate that you have violated the trust placed in you as the former Chairman of our organization. Such actions not only undermine the integrity of our institution but also violate legal and ethical standards that we strictly adhere to.

The specific incidents that led to this conclusion are as follows:

  1. Solicitation of Bribes: The investigation revealed substantial evidence that you have been involved in soliciting bribes from individuals or entities in exchange for political favors, undue advantages, or the manipulation of processes within our organization. This behavior is not only illegal but also fundamentally contradicts the principles of fairness, honesty, and transparency that we uphold.
  2. Misconduct: Furthermore, you have been found guilty of engaging in various forms of misconduct, including but not limited to abuse of authority, misappropriation of organizational resources, and breach of confidentiality.

These actions demonstrate a profound lack of ethical judgment and a complete disregard for the responsibilities and obligations associated with your role.

Given the severity of these violations, it is with deep regret that I inform you of the decision made by the disciplinary committee. Effective immediately, you are hereby expelled from The Council of Patriots (COP). This decision has been made after careful consideration of all the facts and in line with our organization’s policies and procedures.

Please be informed that your expulsion entails the termination of all your existing responsibilities, privileges, and benefits associated with your position within the organization.

You are required to return any property of the Movement within 2 working days from the receipt of this letter for the smooth operation of our decent movement.

It is essential to emphasize that the decision to expel you is final and non-negotiable. We take matters of integrity and ethical conduct extremely seriously, and we cannot tolerate actions that compromise the values and reputation of our organization.

Should you require any further clarification or wish to appeal this decision, you may do so by submitting a written appeal to the relevant committee. The committee will review your appeal in accordance with our established procedures.

I regret deeply that it has come to this point, and I sincerely hope that this experience serves as a reminder of the importance of ethical behavior and the consequences of deviating from it. Our organization is committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity, and we trust that all our members share this commitment.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely, Joseph K. VALLAI, Jr

Secretary General Council of Patriots (COP).

  1. One would have wished that the letter details the specific actions of Costa that have warranted the broad allegations. That would have given some credence to the reasons for his expulsion, otherwise the expulsion may appear ill-motivated.
