ECHOES OF JUSTICE: A POEM FOR LIBERIA’S CIVIL CONFLICT VICTIMS

Date:

Written By Socrates Smythe Saywon

In the heart of Liberia, where history weaves its tale,

Echoes of pain linger, like a mournful wail.

Fourteen long years, the nation’s soul did bleed,

As civil conflict’s shadow cast its darkening deed.

Families torn asunder, by war’s cruel hand,

Homes turned to ashes, across the scarred land.

Injustice reigned, with no one to hear their plea,

Yet hope persisted, for justice yet to be.

The Legislature’s voice, a beacon of light,

Endorsing the court, to set things right.

War and economic crimes, now to be unveiled,

Truths long buried, now to be detailed.

For the victims who suffered, their stories untold,

Justice is the balm, for wounds that grow cold.

Courageous souls who stood firm, in the face of despair,

Their resilience, a testament, beyond compare.

Let the court be the stage, where justice will reign,

Where the guilty face judgment, and truth breaks the chain.

May healing begin, for Liberia’s heart and soul,

As justice unfolds, making broken spirits whole.

So, let us remember, the cost of our past,

And vow to build bridges, that forever will last.

For in the pursuit of justice, we find our way,

To a brighter tomorrow, where peace holds sway.
