MONROVIA – The Economic Freedom Fighters of Liberia (EFFL) has expelled its Deputy Secretary General for Press and Publicity, Eric Palop Collins, for what the political party calls the expelled official indulging in acts that undermine EFFL’s doctrine.
Collins was among over 40 individuals, who in early April of this year, were elected to national leadership posts in the EFFL at the party’s first-ever National People Assembly (NPA), or National Congress.
In a statement released to the press on Tuesday, 9 August 2023, signed by EFFL’s National Secretary General, Julu Johnson and approved by the party’s National Chairman, Steve Saah Kolubah, the revolutionary party divulged that it had relieved Collins of his post and subsequently expelled him from the party.
Smart News Liberia (SNL) has reliably gathered that Collins’ expulsion was triggered as a result of him recently attending the official campaign launch of the governing Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), a political institution the Economic Freedom Fighters of Liberia blames for lapses in the country’s governance process and has since vowed never to align with the CDC in any way, due to what the EFFL terms ideological differences.
Collins, according to unimpeachable sources within the hierarchy of the ruling CDC, allegedly posed as a representative of the EFFL with a group known as the “Consortium of Opposition Partisans”, which recently pledged support to the CDC and endorsed President George Weah’s reelection bid, to which the Economic Freedom Fighters of Liberia says it’s ideologically opposed.
According to the EFFL’s statement announcing Collins’ expulsion, the party wished him well in his new political home but requests that members of the public desist from doing business with him in the name of the Economic Freedom Fighters of Liberia.
As at the time of the publication of this article, a request for a response sent by SNL to Collins was not addressed, as he failed to reply to text message sent to him regarding his expulsion. He also failed to pick up our calls when he was contacted via telephone, as his cell phone rang unanswered severally.
