FORMER FINANCE MINISTER TWEAH ARRIVES AT CRIMINAL COURT AMID EMBEZZLEMENT CHARGES

Date:

MONROVIA, LIBERIA – Former Finance Minister Samuel D. Tweah made his highly anticipated court appearance today at Criminal Court “C” at the Temple of Justice. Accompanied by his legal team, led by Cllr. Arthur Johnson, along with his brother Norris Tweah and aide Aloysius Howe, the former minister entered the courthouse without being handcuffed, walking freely into the building.

Dressed in a grey suit and flashing smiles, Tweah greeted colleagues and appeared calm as he made his way into the court. Despite the gravity of the allegations against him, he maintained a composed demeanor, seemingly unfazed by the proceedings. The courtyard, heavily guarded with a significant police presence, was notably void of large crowds of supporters from Tweah’s political party, the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC).

This appearance follows the government’s issuance of an arrest warrant for Tweah in June of this year, after accusations surfaced that he had embezzled millions of dollars during the Weah administration. Tweah, once a key figure in the Weah government, has now become embroiled in a corruption case that has drawn intense public scrutiny.

As the case moves forward, Tweah’s indictment is expected to be read in open court, where he will formally face charges linked to financial misconduct and embezzlement. The charges, if proven, could have far-reaching implications for Tweah and other former officials involved.

The atmosphere at the Temple of Justice was tense, with security forces ensuring tight control over the courthouse, but the absence of a large crowd of CDC supporters was notable, indicating a subdued reaction from the public.

Smart News Liberia will continue to monitor the case and provide updates as developments unfold, with many awaiting the outcome of this high-profile corruption trial that could significantly shape Liberia’s political landscape.
