MONROVIA – The Government of Liberia, through the Open Budget Office at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, has initiated national budget awareness activities in Montserrado County. The 2024 draft national budget awareness aims to provide the public with access to budget information and opportunities to participate in the budget process at the county level.
During the official launch at the Stephen Tolbert Estate Football Field in Gardnersville, Julius Boakai, Acting Director for Budget Development and Coordination at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, emphasized the government’s commitment to disseminating relevant budget information as required by law when the budget is submitted to the National Legislature.
Boakai described the government budget as a plan that outlines “where the money will come from, how the government will spend it on defined activities, and who will be responsible for managing the funds.”
The event on Monday, April 15, was attended by student groups, representatives of school administrations and teaching staff, community leaders, and personnel from the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning.
The awareness activities will continue across various parts of the country, aiming to gather input and feedback from citizens from different segments of society.
