HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEES TO REVIEW BILL PROHIBITING CHILD LABOR

Date:

MONROVIA – The Honorable House of Representatives has directed its committees on Gender, Labor, and Judiciary to review a bill aimed at prohibiting child labor. The decision was made during the 5th Extraordinary sitting of Plenary on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, following a communication from Sinoe County District 1 Representative, Prof. Thomas Romeo Quioh.

Representative Quioh highlighted the alarming prevalence of child labor, emphasizing that children are being turned into “breadwinners” for their families on a daily basis. He called for Plenary’s intervention to address this pressing issue and curb the menace of child labor in Liberia.

In response to Representative Quioh’s communication, the joint committee comprised of the committees on Gender, Labor, and Judiciary is expected to review the bill and report back to Plenary within a period of two weeks. This initiative underscores the House of Representatives’ commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of children across Liberia.
