LIBERIA: LOWER HOUSE OKs BOAKAI’S REQUEST OF $41 MILLION FOR FEBRUARY OPERATIONS

Date:

MONROVIA – The Plenary of the House of Representatives has accepted President Joseph N. Boakai’s request of US $41 million of the initial $41.3 million request. The President’s decision to request the money is intended for the government’s operations in February 2024.

The House Plenary reached the decision on Tuesday, February 21. The Plenary’s decision, according to our legislative reporter, will be sent to the Senate for concurrence.

Recently, the Liberian leader requested authorization from the Plenary of the House of Representatives to spend $41.3 million for the government’s operations in February 2024. The request is crucial to ensure the continuity of government functions and prevent any potential shutdown.

The draft budget for the fiscal year 2024 is being finalized for resubmission after being returned. The President’s objective is to ensure that essential services are not disrupted and that the government can continue to serve its citizens effectively.

To review the request, the Communication was forwarded to the House’s Committee on Ways, Means, and Finance and the Committee on Public Accounts.

By securing the authorization for this spending, Liberia’s government will maintain stability and public trust by ensuring the uninterrupted provision of essential services throughout February 2024.
