Cllr. Charlyne Brumskine
LIBERIA – Cllr. Charlyne Brumskine is the daughter of the founding father of the opposition Liberty Party-Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine, a well-respected Liberian politician who died a few years ago.
This young Liberian woman seems to be stepping into her late father’s shoes, copying the mature and responsible style of politics. But now, this situation appears to have already put her in harm-ways; on a collision course with the “opponent” of the rule of the law, said a source.
Just this morning, Charlyne Brumskine’s offices situated in her home county-the seaport city of Buchanan, have come under attack.
There has been no official report from the Police in the county as to who were behind this, but reliable sources have already placed the blame squarely on the feet of people they considered to be thugs-opponents sources say fear the rule of law in the party.
The opposition Liberty Party has been engulfed by conflict; with opposing factions headed by Mr. Musa Hassan Bility and the other by Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence.
Ever since party sources said Ms. Brumskine has been bucked down with trying to settle the crisis in the party; while sticking to the governing laws of the party as a means of keeping her father’s legacy intact.
On January 25, 2021, the Liberty Party had its special national convention, which was intended to calm the crisis.
And on that day, she penned a letter to Mr. Musa Hassan Bility, who is widely considered the legal leader of LPP.
Charlyne wrote: My Dear Brother Musa Hassan Bility, today the Liberty Party enters a new chapter. This past weekend, we held the first-ever Special National Convention without the presence, love, and oversight of our Founding Father and former Vision Bearer Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine. It was a difficult weekend for many. Yesterday, I found myself wiping away tears every time my father was fondly remembered by the speakers.”
Charlyne continued in the communication: “Musa, Charles Brumskine sacrificed so much for the Liberty Party and Liberia. He truly believed that the nation of Liberia could be the epitome of African democracy, economic prosperity, self-determination, and equal access to the country’s resources for all Liberians if we had the right systems and upstanding leaders in place.”
Charlyne continued: “He died before realizing that dream. But his dream is not dead! On Saturday, the Special National Convention of Liberty Party elected you as the Chairman of the Liberty Party. Big brother, you are now the administrative custodian of the Liberty Party.
You are now one of the many people that have been entrusted with the dreams of my father as well as the dreams of founding members and dedicated partisans of the Liberty Party. You and I have had many private conversations about your vision for LP and Liberia as a whole. You have promised me that you will uphold Brumskine’s vision for LP. I want you to know that as of today, you have my fullest support to help move LP toward God’s destined position for it.
“Liberty Party runs in my veins. I owe a duty to Charles Brumskine and everyone that walked with him to ensure that we remain the alternative to the political status quo. Everyone is watching, many are depending on Liberty Party. Let us show the world what good governance looks like, let us start with LP! We can do it! TOGETHER WE CAN DO BETTER!”
This was in 2021. But since then, the battle to control Liberty Party has intensified and unabated with Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence challenging the authority of Musa Bility as the legitimate leader of the party.
Now, the internal wrangle is now spilling over and beginning to threaten the very survival of a child that is attempting to step in the founding’s father’s footsteps; by the attack on her offices.
In a social media post, one supporter of the party said: “CLLR. CHARLYNE M.BRUMSKINE, your father was a very good man, he had a pure heart for his fellow man. But, he didn’t know that he was in the pit of SNAKES and they succeeded in working out their evil deals against his life. Now they are after you, but I can assure them, by the grace of GOD, you are not alone.
“We are fully prepared to expose them in any given time. Again, you are not alone.”
It is not clear who may have been behind this latest attack on Charlyne’s offices, but the police in Buchanan are said to be investigating the incident.
By pitching her tent with such an unsavory character and thoroughlly corrupt charlatan as Musa Bility, Charlene has demonstrated that either she lacks political maturity and good sense, or she has pathetically fallen prey to Bility’s illgotten wealth and to those misguided and unpatriotic elements who are out to perpetuate the sade misgovernace going in our country. Very sad indeed.
