MARYLAND COUNTY SHUTS DOWN FOUR MINING COMPANIES FOR ILLICIT OPERATIONS

Date:

By Aaron B. Nemah

LIBERIA – Maryland County Superintendent Henry Cole has ordered the immediate closure of four mining companies operating in District #3, Karluway Statutory District, due to illicit mining activities. The decision was made after the companies failed to attend a meeting arranged by Superintendent Cole.

“The meeting was intended to allow the companies to present their mining documents to the county authorities and to explain their legalities in the county,” he lamented.

Superintendent Cole identified the companies as Jupiter Mining Company operating in Gbeken Township, Dupe Mining Company in Karloken, AB Mining, and a mining company owned by former District #3 Representative Isaac Roland Blalu. Their absence from the meeting is seen as an indication that they are engaged in illegal mining activities.

“Their abrupt absence shows that they are not abiding by the laws of the country and are mining illegally,” he emphasized.

Superintendent Cole has urged the Maryland joint security to immediately implement the orders and has transferred the matter to the Liberia National Police in Harper for further investigation.
