MARYLAND CO., LIBERIA – The non-profit organization “Marylanders Return to Your Roots-2025” has commenced the distribution of agricultural tools and financial support in Maryland County. Over the weekend, the organization donated fifty cutlasses and fifty thousand Liberian dollars (50,000 LD) to both Karluway and Barrobo Districts to support local food production efforts.
The donation ceremonies, held in the two districts, were attended by local authorities, community dwellers, women’s groups, and youth representatives. The initiative aims to empower local farmers to actively engage in agriculture and promote self-reliance.
Presenting the materials and cash on behalf of Maryland County Superintendent Hon. Henry Cole, Mr. Henry Janes emphasized the organization’s commitment to their ancestral roots and their ongoing partnership with Liberia’s heritage through various humanitarian projects.
“This gesture to the residents of Barrobo and Karluway Districts reflects our commitment to significantly contribute to the development of our ancestral land,” stated Janes. He highlighted that such initiatives promote community development and shared responsibility among citizens.
In a separate remark, Sekpe McGee, the acting Mayor for Glofaken and Barrobo Districts, praised the organization for empowering local farmers, noting its importance for national growth. “These districts have faced numerous challenges recently. The decentralization of these materials is a significant boost for local farmers, aiming to improve living conditions in the area,” said Mayor McGee.
Meanwhile, normal operations have paused as the second phase of distribution to the remaining districts will commence upon the arrival of additional materials from neighboring countries.
