NATIONAL MUSLIM COUNCIL ANNOUNCES EID AL-FITR CELEBRATION FOR SUNDAY

Date:

MONROVIA – The National Muslim Council of Liberia has officially announced that Eid al-Fitr will be observed on Sunday, March 30, 2025, following the sighting of the new crescent, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement issued on Saturday, March 29, the Council reaffirmed its earlier commitment to a structured crescent sighting and verification process, ensuring adherence to Islamic principles. It cited the Quranic verse: “And so that you complete the prescribed period and glorify Allah for guiding you, and that perhaps you will be grateful.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:185), and the prophetic guidance, “Fast when you see it (the crescent) and break your fast when you see it.” (Sahih Bukhari & Muslim).

The Council further announced that the official Eid prayer, as scheduled by its Fatwa Committee, will take place at 10 a.m. on Sunday, corresponding to 1st Shawwal 1446 Hijri. It urged all Muslims to observe this timing and gather for prayers in their respective communities. Additionally, the Council will hold the main Eid prayer at its headquarters and encouraged worshippers to join in celebrating the completion of Ramadan.

“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the Muslim Ummah on the successful completion of this blessed month,” the statement read, adding gratitude to the community for its cooperation and commitment during the fasting period.

Meanwhile, the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Ali Krayee, will lead this year’s Eid prayer in Sanoyea, Bong County. His sermon will focus on the theme: “Merciless Servants of the Merciful Lord – The Futility of Fasting Without Mercy.” In a message to the Muslim community, Sheikh Krayee prayed for the acceptance of worship and divine blessings.

“May Allah accept our fasting, prayers, and good deeds, and may He bless our nation with peace, unity, and prosperity,” the statement concluded.
