NEC DISPOSES OF UNWANTED ELECTORAL MATERIALS IN PREPARATION FOR NIMBA BY-ELECTION

Date:

BENSONVILLE, LIBERIA – On Thursday, April 3, 2025, the National Elections Commission (NEC) initiated the process of burning electoral materials from the 2023 General Elections that are no longer needed. The symbolic ceremony, conducted at the NEC’s Magisterial Office for Upper Montserrado in Bensonville, was led by Co-Chairperson Cllr. P. Teplah Reeves.

The disposal of these materials is part of the NEC’s efforts to comply with the Constitution and clear its storage to accommodate the necessary materials for the upcoming By-election in Nimba County. The discarded items included used ballot papers and other materials from the 2023 elections.

The event was witnessed by key figures, including NEC Commissioners Boakai A. Dukuly, Barsee Leo Kpangbai, Chairperson of the Nimba By-election Steering Committee, and Josephine Kou Gaye. NEC Magistrate for Upper Montserrado, James Kolubah Govergo Cordor, alongside representatives from the Police, Fire Services, and the Montserrado Superintendent’s office, were also present to observe the exercise.

As the materials were burned, the NEC reiterated its dedication to ensuring that the Nimba County By-election remains peaceful, free, fair, and transparent. The Commission urged the seven candidates running for the Senate seat in Nimba to encourage their supporters to maintain civility throughout the electoral process.

The NEC assured the Liberian public that it will uphold the highest standards of election integrity as the country moves forward in its democratic process. The Commission’s continued efforts emphasize the importance of conducting elections that are both credible and transparent.
