REP. KOLUBAH WANTS PRES. BOAKAI BROADEN SCOPE OF DRUG TESTING TO INCLUDE ALCOHOL AND PALM WINE

Date:

MONROVIA – Montserrado County District Number 10 Representative, Yekeh Kolubah, has recently urged President Joseph Boakai to broaden the scope of drug testing to include alcohol. Additionally, Rep. Kolubah emphasized the importance of including palm wine in these tests. He expressed his concerns regarding the president’s exclusive focus on drug testing, highlighting the need to address other pressing issues within the country.

In his address, President Joseph Boakai emphasized the need for transparency and accountability among public officials. He called for all government officials, including himself, to undergo drug testing as a way to ensure that they are fit to serve the nation.

However, Rep. Yekeh Kolubah, a member of the House of Representatives representing District Number 10 in Montserrado County, believes that the focus on drug testing is not enough.

Speaking to reporters after the president’s address, Kolubah welcomed the call for drug testing but urged President Boakai to also include the taking of a liquor test, specifically a palm wine test.

Kolubah argued that while drug abuse is a concern, it is not the only issue that needs attention in the country. He highlighted the prevalence of alcohol consumption, palm wine, among public officials and questioned why this aspect was not addressed in the president’s speech.

The representative expressed his concerns about the potential negative effects of alcohol consumption on decision-making and performance in public office. He stressed the need for a comprehensive approach to testing, including both drugs and alcohol, to ensure that public officials are fit to carry out their duties effectively.

Kolubah also called on President Boakai to prioritize other pressing issues in the country, such as the  war and economic crimes court. He argued that while drug testing is important, it should not overshadow the need for comprehensive reforms and policies that address the root causes of the nation’s challenges.

The call for a palm wine test by Rep. Yekeh Kolubah has sparked a debate among the public, with some supporting his stance and others questioning the relevance of such a test. As the discussion continues, it remains to be seen whether President Boakai will consider expanding the scope of his proposed drug testing policy to include alcohol testing as well.
