Date:

MONROVIA – Authorities have forwarded several individuals to court following their alleged involvement in a violent protest at the University of Liberia’s Capitol Hill campus on April 28, 2025. The demonstration, which turned chaotic, disrupted traffic along the Capital By-Pass and resulted in property damage, including the vandalism of a police vehicle with license plate RL-307.

According to a press statement issued on April 30, 2025, by Liberia National Police Spokesperson Cecelia G. Clarke, officers responding to the scene were attacked with stones and glass bottles by some protesters, further escalating tensions.

The following individuals were arrested and formally charged: Daniel S., Deema, Kalifa Kanneh, Archi Sougha, Frank D. Jackson, Christopher Dugbe, Isaac William, and Musa A. Kermokai. After an investigation, they now face several criminal charges, including:

Criminal Conspiracy

Recklessly Endangering Another Person

Rioting

Criminal Mischief

Failure to Disperse

Disorderly Conduct

Obstructing Highways and Public Passages

These offenses fall under various sections of Liberia’s Revised Penal Law, namely Chapter 10, Section 10.4; Chapter 14, Section 14.23; Chapter 15, Section 15.5; and Chapter 17, Sections 17.1, 17.3, and 17.7.

Police say the individuals have been turned over to the courts for prosecution, while investigations continue to identify other suspects believed to be involved in the unrest.

The Liberia National Police reaffirmed its commitment to upholding peace and public order, urging citizens to use lawful and peaceful means to express their concerns.
