SWAL TO ORGANIZE ONE DAY TOURNAMENT IN HONOR OF FALLEN  JOURNALIST ATTY. PHILIP WESSEH

LIBERIA – The Sports Writers Association of Liberia (SWAL) will on Saturday, October 22,  2022, organize a one-day media sporting activity.

The sporting event which will take place on Saturday at the Barnesville Estate sports pitch in Barnesville is in honor of veteran journalist Atty. Philip Gina Wesseh.

Veteran Journalist Wesseh died Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center following a period of illness.

He had over 30 years of enormous impact in the media and Academic landscapes.

He started his journalism career in 1981 at the Liberian Daily Observer after the civil war he joined the Inquirer Newspaper until his demise.

The sporting event is among other things meant to remember and reflect on the life and impactful contribution the fallen media hero (Philip Wesseh) has made to the media landscape of the Country.

According to SWAL’s President Kolubah Zayzay, the non-political day-long event will feature the Female Journalists Association of Liberia (FeJAL) print and electronic journalists locking horns with each other in the day’s first encounter in kickball.

In the football category in game one,  Legislative Reporters  Association will battle the Executive Mansion Press Corps.

The tournament’s second game will see the Sports Writers Association of Liberia ( SWAL) going against the Judiciary Reporters Association of Liberia.

In the final, the winner of game one will take on the winner of game two and a trophy will be given to the winner of the day-long sports festival.

SWAL encourage all journalists in Liberia to turn out in their mass to attend the day-long event as a mark of respect in recognition of the pivotal role, Mr. Wesseh played in the media sector of Liberia.

The Day long activity will begin by 10:00 am with a parade.

Meanwhile, FeJAL has been urged to select designated members to organize both print and electron teams.

Meanwhile, The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) will on Friday, October 21, 2022, open a book of condolence for the fallen Liberian journalist, lecturer, and Managing Editor of the Inquirer Newspaper Atty. Philip N. Wesseh, Alias “Gina”.

The book of condolence will be opened at the Headquarters of the Press Union of Liberia on Clay Street beginning at 10:30 AM. The Union is therefore inviting all journalists, Civil Society, the government of Liberia, the Diplomatic Corps, family members, the Inquirer Newspaper, Friends, well-wishers, and Sympathizers including the general public to be a part of this ceremony in honor of the late icon and prolific writer Atty.
