UPHOLDING ACCOUNTABILITY: US AMBASSADOR’S ASSURANCE TO LIBERIA

Date:

MONROVIA – Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the US Ambassador to the United Nations has spoken of her disappointment to see sanctioned officials still occupy positions of trust in Liberia.

“We have always been a country that supports accountability,” Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield stated firmly. “There is a strong need for Liberia to have accountability, and it is up to them to take the necessary steps.”

Linda Thomas-Greenfield is known for her unwavering commitment to justice, accountability, and the pursuit of truth. Her recent focus had been on Liberia, a country that had endured years of political turmoil and corruption.

As she addressed the media, she made it clear that there was no pressure on Liberia regarding the recent Israeli vote at the UN. Instead, she emphasized the absolute assurance to work with the Boakai administration, the newly elected government of Liberia.

“We have always been a country that supports accountability,” Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield stated firmly. “There is a strong need for Liberia to have accountability, and it is up to them to take the necessary steps.”

Liberia, a nation still recovering from a devastating civil war, had long struggled with corruption and the presence of individuals who had been sanctioned for their involvement in illicit activities. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield expressed her disappointment that these individuals were still in positions of power within the government.

“People who are sanctioned should not be allowed to hold positions of authority,” she declared. “It is crucial for Liberia’s progress that those who have earned the trust of the people are given the opportunity to lead.”

The ambassador’s words resonated deeply with the citizens of Liberia, who had long yearned for a government that prioritized accountability and transparency. They had grown tired of empty promises and the perpetuation of a system that allowed corruption to thrive.

President Boakai, a seasoned politician with a reputation for integrity, would wast no time in implementing measures to address the concerns raised by Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield. As he has spoken about dealing with corruption in his inaugural speech.

Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield closely monitored the developments in Liberia, providing guidance and support whenever needed. She recognized the challenges that lay ahead but remained optimistic about the country’s potential for change.

She said she has faith in the Liberian people and their ability to hold their leaders accountable, she said. “Together, we can build a nation that thrives on transparency, justice, and progress.”

The story of Liberia serves as a reminder that change is possible, even in the face of adversity. Greenfield is heading US Presiident Joe Bien’s delegation that attended Pres. Boakai’s inauguration.  With the unwavering support of individuals like Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, nations can rise above their challenges and forge a path towards a brighter future.
