MONROVIA, LIBERIA – The Coalition of Youths and Students for Better Liberia (COYSBL) has strongly condemned what it calls a malicious campaign of blackmail and fake propaganda allegedly orchestrated by a group of unscrupulous media practitioners against the Director General of the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP), Hon. Dewitt vonBallmoos.
In a press release issued on Sunday, April 13, 2025, COYSBL and its affiliate organizations, including the Progressive Youths of Liberia, Intellectual Class of Liberia, Citizens Action Committee, Students Against Societal Ills, and the National Youth Council, described the allegations of money laundering and illicit financing against Mr. vonBallmoos as “false, misleading, and purely fabricated.”
The group specifically refuted claims that Mr. vonBallmoos is involved in questionable financial transactions with Mr. Diego Pol, an Italian national and representative of CESAF Liberia Limited—the company contracted for the construction of the NASSCORP Headquarters on 24th Street, Sinkor.
COYSBL stated that its investigation revealed the project commenced in 2015 under a legal and transparent contract with CESAF Liberia Limited, a company with a reputable track record in Liberia. The firm has also executed several landmark projects, including the new Central Bank of Liberia building, the Liberia Football Association (LFA) headquarters, the scoreboard at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS), and renovation works at the Executive Mansion.
“The insinuation that Mr. vonBallmoos is engaged in illicit financing with CESAF is nothing short of a blackmail attempt aimed at extorting money from two reputable professionals,” the statement said.
The youth coalition also lauded Mr. vonBallmoos for his numerous accomplishments at NASSCORP. These include the construction of the corporation’s ultra-modern, multi-story headquarters; the establishment of the Jamale Medical Diagnostic Center at ELWA Junction; the construction of NASSCORP’s regional offices across the country; and the introduction of direct bank payments to pension and retirement beneficiaries.
According to the group, Mr. vonBallmoos has not only upheld professional standards but has also ensured that NASSCORP remains a consistent contributor to the national budget.
“While we do not support corruption or bad governance, we will also not sit idly by and allow media miscreants to spread lies and defame result-oriented statesmen like Hon. Dewitt vonBallmoos,” the release concluded.
COYSBL has therefore called on those behind the allegations to desist and instead recognize the professional and developmental contributions of Mr. vonBallmoos to Liberia’s public service sector.
