MONROVIA – The National Transit Authority (NTA) has confirmed that 55 brand new buses will arrive in Liberia by July 2025 as part of a nationwide effort to enhance public transportation.
Of the incoming fleet, 20 buses, each with an 18-passenger capacity, will be dedicated to improving mobility along key feeder roads in high-density areas, including Barnesville, Johnsonville, New Georgia, and 72nd Boulevard. The remaining 35 will be deployed across major inter-county routes to boost transit access throughout the country.
Speaking on the State Radio’s “Nightline Liberia” program, NTA Deputy Director for Operations Noah Gibson disclosed that the government has committed an initial sum of US$500,000 toward the procurement of the vehicles. He emphasized that the expansion aims to address pressing transportation needs, particularly in underserved communities.
In a related move to support women in agriculture and small-scale trading, Gibson announced that President Joseph Boakai has also secured five new trucks intended for rural areas. These trucks will be assigned to assist market women in transporting their produce from farms to urban market centers, a move aimed at reducing post-harvest losses and improving livelihoods for women in rural Liberia.
Gibson described the initiative as a direct response to the long-standing logistical challenges faced by rural traders and reaffirmed the Boakai administration’s commitment to inclusive development.
